So rather than watching any snow or frost on the ground we have raced into the 3rd week of February prepping the gardens of our wedding venue!!!! AND without letting this spring fever overwhelm us, we can’t go a moment longer without sending a big CONGRATULATION to all of those new engagements as a result of Saint Valentine! Many of you have shown an interest in Stepping Stones Garden and we are looking forward to giving you a tour. You can also come see us at the Skagit Wedding Show this Sunday at the Swinomish Casino. There will be lots of vendors present who can give you some great pointers from their professional expertise. It is a fun way to start to gather ideas or finish off any final planning.

Who would have expected this Spring-like weather? It has definitely changed the schedules for those of us at Stepping Stones Garden. I must admit that it is a lot more fun working in the gardens when the sun is out and the temperatures have started to warm the soils. (It makes pulling weeds a heck of a lot easier too.) What is even more amazing is watching the flowering cherries, camellias and forsythia all starting to bloom. Working in the bride’s garden has been delightful with the Korean Spice giving off its incredible fragrance while the primrose adds color to the ground layer. I think one of my favorite anticipations is waiting to see the rhubarb poke through the soil with those crinkly feathery leaves in such a large tight bud. And yes that has happened too! Skagit County is definitely waking up and promising to be a fantastic wedding season, especially for the garden weddings and receptions.

We have also been able to start on some of the annual chores as well, like painting, pressure washing, pouring concrete…oh did I say pouring concrete? Yes, for some additional stepping stones around the grounds but also for… well you’ll just have to wait to find out.

Be sure to check in with us at Stepping Stones Garden facebook page for updates.

Cheers,
